Can no longer access the ADMIN web interface?

Postby projectpcs » Sat Aug 11, 2007 10:44 pm

Background:
I've been running the ReadyNAS for about a year now. I recently moved to a location where I could actually get Broadband internet, and I installed a Wireless Router. I was a bit nervous about the Wireless security and created a shared Key for Wireless Access. Still Paranoid, I decided to try and User Mode on my ReadyNas. Hopefully, accomplishing two things; restricting access, and finally getting my FTP access to work.

The Incident;
I switched the ReadyNAS from the default Share to Users Mode, and I added two users. I rebooted the ReadyNAS and when it came back up I can no longer get to the Admin Web interface. I checked for any certificates related to the page, but I couldn't find any. I can see all my files on the mapped drive, but I have "read-only" access. Also the RAIDar has no problems locating the ReadyNAS; If I click Setup, the web page fails to load. If I click browse, I can view the files, but again "ready-only" access.

Any Help Would by Greatly appreciated!!!

Are you able to get to the web interface (FrontView) with this link:
https://yourNASIPAddress/admin.

Once you can login to web interface, I suggest you upgrade your firmware to latest one 3.01c1-p6, and you can reset your share permission in "Advanced option" in Frontview.

Does the authentication windows pops up when you tried to launch the web interface? If not, try to reboot your NAS box to see whether fix this problem, otherwise contact our technical support.

You can try disconnecting your network cable, wait a few secs, and reconnecting. If you still have problems, try doing a firmware re-install (see Wiki).

For some reason, I can only access the admin interface using IE. In Firefox it times out every time.

I'm hoping this works better in 4.0.

@ Qui-Gon Jinn; No authentication prompt. rebooting had no affect.

Yea, I've tried it from both IE and Firefox; no dice. Looks like Yoh-dah's may have pointed me in the right direction. I'm a bit nervous about losing data, but I'm going to try and reset the firmware. the whole if you see a 2nd blink is a bit to vague for me, especially since the first thing it does is blink twice; here goes nothing.

"You will see the drive LEDs in the front blink once. Release the switch at immediately. Do not wait for the 2nd blink which will cause the ReadyNAS to reset itself to factory default and wiping out your data. If you see the LED flash a 2nd time, turn off the power immediately from the back."

Hmmm... interesting; I was able to reset my admin password and access the admin web interface @ https://myIP/admin for about 2 minutes, and I all of the sudden got kicked out. I can see my shares but it asks my to login as a guest account; can change the guest account and have no idea what the quest account password would be. I decided to go with the old stand-by, REBOOT, again.

If all else fails, laughing helps:)

Well actually, even if you did miss the 2nd blink and started a factory default, it'll wait 10 minutes for RAIDar to confirm the factory default before continuing. So it's safer than the message would imply.

I figured (hoped) it was more of a scare tactic to discourage the technologically challenged.

Well I rebooted it, once again can't get back to the Admin web interface (IE or Firefox) I had just enough time to download the logs, and poof kicked out. I decided I try to reload the firmware again and see where that gets me.

It looks like you're running an older version of firmware (p2). One last thing you can do is to try doing a TFTP boot recovery (again covered in Wiki) and that should update you to p6. p6 has some better recovery means that may get your FrontView back up running.

Yeah, I didn't realize a new version came out until Qui-Gon Jinn mentioned it. I was able to TFTP and I think it worked, but I've got the "File System Check" when I booted the ReadyNAS back up. I'll check back on it after a bit. I know this usually takes for ever.

Thanks Again for all the help.

I'm having a heck of a time here. I used the TFTP process outlined in the FAQ's section of the wiki, and it appeared to work, but when after rebooting the NAS. It came up in File system check.

I let it set for over 24 hours and no progress appeared to have been made. I rebooted the ReadyNAS, and All the LED's came on, but the power keeps flashing slowly. From what i gathered (found a PDF somewhere with LED explanations) is that it's locking up during the boot process. I tried the TFTP process again, it appeared to work, but when I rebooted same thing all four LEDs were on and the power button just flashed.

I let it sit for an hour or so, and I read through more of the FAQ's page. I found a section on booting from the USB. I tried a few different USB drives and they don't appear to be working. Does it matter which USB port I use? the front or the Back?

Anyways, I broke down and tried to submit a trouble ticket, but it's not letting me register for the site. It continually asks for a confirmation code, which I never received via email (I tried with a few different address).

Can any one help me out? either with the ReadyNAS or figuring out what's wrong with the support page (or what I'm doing wrong)?

thanks, as always; much appreciated.
