RAIDiator 4.00c1-p2 Release Notes

RAIDiator 4.00c1-p2 is the 2nd public release of our RAIDiator 4 firmware for the ReadyNAS and will work with any of the past and present ReadyNAS systems. The release contains a number of bug fixes and enhancements over 4.00c1-p1 release and it is recommended that you update to this release if you are running this or an older version of RAIDiator. If you wish to upgrade, simply go to the System/Update/Remote tab in FrontView and update from there. If you have problems doing this, you can download the release at http://www.infrant.com/download/RAIDiator-4.00c1-p2 and perform a “local” update from the System/Update/Local tab. Although your data will not be affected, we advise that you backup any irreplaceable data on your ReadyNAS before performing the update.

As always, the ReadyNAS team would like to send a big thank you to all of our beta testers who have contributed countless constructive feedback to allow us to continually improve our RAIDiator firmware.

1. Added DivX/XviD support for PS3.
2. Fixed Frontview backups not working when language is set to French.
3. Enhanced recovery from cancelled or interrupted backup jobs.
4. Fixed issue where FTP backup destinations were considered local.
5. Fixed NFS access restriction where read-only took precedence over write-enabled privileges.

1. Fixed X-RAID volume expansion failing when there are more than a million files in the volume. This problem affected volume check as well.
2. Fixed an obscure system lockup condition when running Acronis verify and perhaps seen with other applications. We’ll need folks who have encountered similar lockups to help verify this fix as we’ve been able to replicate only the Acronis hang inhouse.
3. Fixed hang with large data transfer when snapshot is active.
4. Fixed hang with NFS over UDP.
5. Fixed slow WAN access.
6. Fixed fan running faster than what it should.
7. Fixed failure in fan recalibration.
8. Added AVI support for XBox 360.
9. Speed up searches over UPnP-A/V (affects mainly XBox 360).
10. Fixed extremely slow CIFS backups.
11. Fixed issue where a renamed USB drive that was formatted failed to retain the new name.
12. Fixed issue where web access to the ReadyNAS failed after removing FTP access to a USB drive share.
13. Fixed issue where enabled backup jobs were not displayed as enabled in IE7.
14. Fixed snapshot not being able to be a backup source.
15. Added volumes to the backup source list.
16. Fixed issue where Rsync passwords were unusable after a reboot.
17. Give more time for drive to become ready to allow for slower initializing drives.
18. Fixed incorrect display of DHCP service status.

5. In Domain mode, don't display UIDs for all domain users to avoid filling up UID mapping database.
6. Fix Domain User ID account database import/export functions.

7. Always respect Home Media Streaming Service max lines setting, even if we are able to detect the client.

20. Get rid of the requirement to disable the “Do not save encrypted pages to disk” option in IE7.
21. Various bug fixes to FrontView Backup.
22. Warn user when backup source and destination paths are the same.
23. Fixed the cause of spurious filesystem checks during boot.
24. Reduced number of NFS daemon services to 1 to improve single-user throughput.

1. Fixed performance drop every couple minutes due to disk temp monitoring. Some folks had reported frame drops during video streaming.
2. Updated SNMP service with various bug fixes. New MIB can be found here: READYNAS-MIB.txt.
3. Faster file scanning over UPnP-A/V streaming service.
4. Support for partial reads of files greater than 4GB over UPnP-A/V.
5. Fixed security hole in previous betas where FrontView can be accessed w/o authentication.
6. Added password option to USB shares.
7. Share permissions are now properly changed when changing to Share security mode.
8. Fixed Share Access Restriction box in CIFS tab where ‘0’ was being displayed instead of ‘Disabled’.
9. Fixed proper display of Life Support mode in the RAID Settings tab.
10. Added German language support for FrontView. Big thanks to our German friends Mace Windu and XLION!!
11. Fixed Performance tab where selecting/deselecting an option would affect another option.
12. Warn IE users to select the “Do not save encrypted pages to disk” advanced browser option.

1. Added option to save and restore system configuration. There is also an option to save everything, which allows you to save the folder structure of your volume to be replicated on other ReadyNAS systems. The option is available in the System->Backup tab.
2. Added initial Japanese language support for FrontView. Make Japanese the default browser language and reload your browser.
3. Blink disk LED for 3 secs when a retry operation is ongoing. This will allow user to recognize which disk may be bad during boot-time file system or quota checking stage.
4. Improved handling of flaky disks – disks that have gone through a number of retries will now be marked dead.
5. Improved handling of AFP guest access.
6. Improved CIFS backup foreign character handling.
7. Fixed several issues with USB drive renaming and formatting.
8. Fixed auto power off handling when drives are in sync or init.
9. Properly clean recycle bins.
10. Fixed HTTPS key generation.

CHANGES SINCE 3.01
1. RAIDiator 4 is now based on Linux 2.6.
2. FrontView admin password is now “netgear1” if you do a factory default installation.
3. Remote SSH for Support is disabled by default. If you wish to enable SSH access for Support, you’ll need to install the ToggleSSH add-on.
4. Root SSH support. With the EnableRootSSH add-on, you can now remote login to the ReadyNAS RAIDiator shell as a root user. Initial password for root will be the same as the current FrontView admin password. Please keep in mind that NETGEAR may deny support if you’ve enabled root access.
5. 2TB+ volume size support. With this release, you can now fully utilize full capacity of 750GB and 1TB disk drives. Existing X-RAID systems utilizing 750GB will not automatically expand – you will need to use an add-on ForceExpansion to reclaim the extra 40GB of space beyond the previous pre-RAIDiator 4.0 2TB limitation.
6. NFS over TCP is now supported.
7. Home shares are now accessible over NFS. Keep in mind that user home shares are created on first access via CIFS.
8. Root of volumes can now be accessed by the admin user for easier volume-wide backups.
9. Network UPS. You can now specify the ReadyNAS as a network UPS server for other ReadyNAS systems so that battery-low graceful shutdown can occur with multiple ReadyNAS systems sharing the same UPS. Designate one ReadyNAS as the UPS server in the System/Power Management tab and specify others to utilize this ReadyNAS for power failure signal.
10. You can now specify the UPS battery level shutdown threshold.
11. Online X-RAID volume expansion. There’s no longer a need to reboot the ReadyNAS when adding new drives to expand the volume capacity. Volume expansion will kick off after drive initialization and you will see the capacity grow dynamically as the volume is expanded. This is useful in environments where down-time must be avoided. Requirement for online expansion – must have factory defaulted with RAIDiator 4, journaling enabled, and must not have active snapshot.
12. Better USB storage device compatibility support, including capability to handle concurrent identical devices with the same serial number.
13. NTFS read/write support to USB disks. This will allow you to easily share your Windows USB disks by plugging it into the ReadyNAS.
14. The ReadyNAS can now join into a Windows domain using a login with domain joining rights; there’s no longer a need to have domain administrator privilege.
15. The ReadyNAS can now be limited to a single Organizational Unit (OU) in a ADS environment. This allows the ReadyNAS to work more efficiently in larger domain environments.
16. HP OfficeJet network scanning now supported.
17. FrontView response has been improved.
18. Embedded UPnP AV service now supports streaming to Xbox360 and PS3, virtual folders, and audio metadata.


LIMITATIONS
1. Opera browser will not work with FrontView.
2. Network wireless PCI and USB devices are not supported in this release. We will come out with an update that will support this at a later time. If you need this support, please do not update to the RAIDiator 4 release. Keep in mind that if you need wireless support, you can connect the ReadyNAS to a wireless router or a wireless bridge.

For those upgrading from beta 4, you can download RAIDiator-4.00c1-p2 and perform a local update from the FrontView System/Update/Local tab. You can also go to the System/Update/Remote tab and perform the update there.

Thats what Frontview tells me in Volume Tab:

539 MB (0%) of 456 GB used
Additional 5 GB reserved for snapshots

(NAS is still empty, because I moved hard data away for Beta Testing)

Seems to be fine for me too, just testing to see if slimserver drops out.
Did the fan override to set min at 2100, its seems to vary between 2050 and 2200 - disks are 41c and unit 31c, so assume this is working ok. I'll update if SS drops but its been fine so far so will assume well unless I say later.

I would have liked to see values of about

25MB/s - 30MB/s Read
and 20 - 25 MB/s Write.........

The 539 MB is the filesystem overhead.

Can anyone who puts this on to a 600A please let me know if your drives get very hot under load, but the fan continues to run at ~1200rpm.

A fix for the smb share permissions being lost on reboot would have been nice

I decided to upgrade from 3.01 to P2 after avoiding the P1 saga.
All went smooth as silk.
Everything is working OK.
My PS3 is now working great (with the new 2.10 firmware).
Excellant job folks to all envolved.

did this fix the slow downs in the beta version of t45?

Please check if there is excessive dust accumulated on fan.
Rev A has one or two full speed connectors near PCI slot. (It is hard to reach the controllable fan connector near SATA connectors though)

Is the factory reset needed when loading this P2 version over the P1 like I had to do when coming from verision 3? Or is just an update required.

The Factory Reset was only required with p1 if you wanted the new block size.

So I guess if you want the new block size and you've not done a reset since coming from 3.x then yes, you'll need to do a FR.
